PACT – Tackling Sweden’s climate change challenge by addressing organisational and systemic capacity

New approaches are needed to take climate challenges seriously. The PACT Framework and Action Planner Tool is one of the new approaches that have evolved out of this reality. According to the UK Climate Impacts Programme, PACT, is the world’s most useful and comprehensive approach to measuring and developing organisational capacity to respond to climate change.

The workshop is organised by Daxam with presentations by ICLEI’s implementation partner for the EU Cities Adapt project, Alexander Ballard. The PACT tool will also be an integral part of EU Cities Adapt, led by AEA and ICLEI for the Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) to provide capacity building and support for European cities in developing and implementing an adaptation strategy to climate change.

West Sweden sustainable procurement workgroup enters new phase

Since 2009, on behalf of CSR Västsverige Public and Private Initiative, Daxam has been facilitating a cooperative learning group for procurement managers from several of West Sweden’s key organizations. Participating organizations include Volvo Cars, Astra Tech, Lindex, AB Volvo, SCA, Chalmers, Västra Götaland Region, Svenska Mässan, Göteborgs Energi, Gothenburg University and Upphandlingsbolaget, the City of Gothenburg Procurement Company. Together these organizations account for over 200.000 employees.

CSR Västsverige’s overarching goal for the Hållbara Inköp Samverkansgrupp (sustainable procurement workgroup) is to significantly contribute to the development of sustainable procurement practices in the Västra Götaland region.

In support of this end, the 2012 goals for CSR Västsverige as regards the group are to:

Continue to ensure the issues focused upon are of direct relevance, importance and concrete value to the participating organizations, and

Upgrade the group from being primarily an information-sharing forum to become a collaborative change implementation workgroup.

Sustainable business travel in Swedish state owned companies

In collaboration with Koucky & Partners, Daxam partner Fredric Norefjäll is currently facilitating a cooperative learning project involving 15 state-owned companies. Many of the participating companies have a long tradition of working with responsible business practices, including TeliaSonera, Samhall, and Systembolaget.

The project is based upon Fredric’s Guide on Responsible Business Travel, and builds upon the ISO 2600 and GRI frameworks. The project is financed by Trafikverket – the Swedish Transport Administration.

Mike Debelak’s book ‘The Bumpy Road to the BoP’ has been published

Daxam Partner, Mike Debelak, has recently had his research on inclusive business at the base of the pyramid in Ghana published as a book. The book entitled ”The Bumpy Road to the BoP: Addressing the Challenges of Distribution to the Base of the Pyramid” identifies the key BoP distribution challenges and solutions and categorises these according to the 4As of BoP distribution – Availability, Affordability, Awareness and Acceptability. The author proposes a BoP Distribution Framework, incorporating a set of principles and alternatives for addressing the challenge of distribution, in the hope of making the road to the BoP a little less bumpy. The book was published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing and is now available at Amazon.com.

An exciting start for 2012

One and a half intensive days full of brainstorming, visioning and planning – Daxam’s 2012 kick-off delivers both individual and organisational progress as well as a lot of laughs and fun teambuilding activities. Our vision, mission and values have been further developed and sharpened, and we enter 2012 with a lot of positive energy, a commitment to make a larger impact, and an optimism of that this year will be more sustainable than the last one!

Daxam Presents at the 2011 Euro-Asia Management Studies Association Conference

In late November, EAMSA hosted its 28^th annual conference at the University of Gothenburg. Christian Schmidt, from the Daxam team, submitted and presented his research paper on Western talent management approaches and adaptations to China. The research was accepted to the competitive session and was one of the runner-ups for the “Palgrave Macmillan-EAMSA Best Paper Award”. His presentation was very much appreciated by the 40 EAMSA delegates attending the session. In addition, Kaarina Dubee was one of three presenters in a special session devoted to “Sustainability’s role in the changing competitive business landscape”. She addressed the evolution of sustainability value creation in action and touched upon challenges and opportunities for SMEs to develop their business offer aligned to emerging realities of the global business environment.

Daxam Delivers for the UNDP in Lithuania

Daxam was recently engaged by the United Nations Development Programme in Lithuania to deliver two days of training on the topics of responsible supply chain management and responsible reorganisation. Mike Debelak from the team travelled to Vilnius and Kaunas in November to deliver the training to over 70 participants from company, government, union and other organisations. The training was well received by all participants, and considered to play an ongoing role in the development of CSR in Lithuania.

Daxam facilitating the development of a global road transport safety strategy affecting 90,000 drivers

Daxam has been hired by a major multi-national to facilitate the development of their global road transport safety and security strategy. It is estimated that annually some 90,000 drivers are transporting on behalf of this company on roads around the world.

The objective of the project is to define and implement a Road Safety Strategy that, by taking a systemic approach, concretely reflects the organization’s commitment to supply chain leadership, excellence and corporate social responsibility.

Kaarina Dubee is the consultant lead for this project.

Daxam is happy to welcome two new junior members to the growing Daxam team – Christian Schmidt and Ambreen Ali. Daxam first welcomed Gothenburg native Christian to the team in September, and shortly after welcomed Bangladesh native Ambreen Ali. Both Ambreen and Christian were recently M.Sc. graduates from the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, and Daxam is happy to be able to recruit people from a local talent pipeline.
